The countdown to the 2026 World Cup has already begun for the Mexican National Team, and with Mexico as one of the host countries for the World Cup, Javier Aguirre is working against the clock to define the final squad that will seek to compete in front of its own fans and change the recent history of the Tricolor.

While the debate over who deserves a place continues to grow among fans and specialists, the coaching staff headed by “Vasco” has already begun to secure several players who play outside of Mexico. The Mexican Soccer Federation has advanced in the logistical and administrative coordination to integrate an important group of international players once their vacations and commitments with their respective clubs are over.

According to national sports media reports, Javier Aguirre has already considered seven players who play outside of the Liga MX and who are part of the current Mexican National Team’s World Cup squad.

The list includes experience, leadership and established players in European and Asian leagues:

Guillermo Ochoa (AEL Limassol – Cyprus)
Jorge Sanchez (PAOK – Greece)
Cesar Montes (Lokomotiv Moscow – Russia)
Johan Vasquez (Genoa – Italy)
Edson Alvarez (Fenerbahce – Turkey)
Raúl Jiménez (Fulham – England)
Julián Quiñones (Al-Qadsiah – Saudi Arabia)

The presence of these names reflects Aguirre’s intention to build a team with international experience.

This has historically been key for Mexico in World Cup competitions.

For Hispanic fans in the United States, several of these players currently represent the leading figures in Mexican soccer.

Especially Edson Alvarez and Raul Jimenez, who maintain a strong following among the Mexican community living in cities such as Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Although a large part of the Mexican National Team’s roster appears to be set, there are still several open spots on the final roster for the 2026 World Cup.

And that’s where the real competition begins.

Among the players who appear as strong candidates are Santiago Gimenez, Orbelín Pineda, Álvaro Fidalgo and Mateo Chávez.

In addition, one of the names that generates more expectation is that of Obed Vargas, a young midfielder who has aroused interest thanks to his soccer growth and his recent performances.

However, the fight for the last places promises to be intense.

Players such as Germán Berterame, Luis Chávez and Rodrigo Huescas continue to convince the coaching staff in this final stage of preparation.
