Jimmy Butler ruptures his cruciate ligament

The injury happened against the Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler, one of the leaders of the Golden State Warriors, will miss the remainder of the NBA season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in his team’s 135-112 win over the Miami Heat on Monday.

Butler suffered a dangerous internal right knee sprain after a collision with the Heat’s Davion Mitchell in the fight for a rebound in the third period of the game at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Coach Steve Kerr said after the game that there was a lot of concern, but did not give further details pending the MRI.

At just after 3 a.m. ET Tuesday morning, ESPN reported that Jimmy Butler suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The former Miami Heat player scored 17 points in Monday’s game and averaged 20 points per game this season.
