Mexican boxer Omar Chavezson of the legendary former world champion Julio César Chávezwas arrested by state authorities in Culiacan, Sinaloa, after being accused of the alleged crimes of domestic violence and injuries to the detriment of a woman identified as his partner.
The arrest took place on the morning of Wednesday, May 20, when members of the State Preventive Police served a warrant for his arrest. According to official records, the arrest was made at around 8:53 a.m. and the sportsman was subsequently transferred to the Aguaruto prison, where he remained in custody while the corresponding proceedings were being carried out.
The news generated great impact due to the popularity of the Chavez family within the Mexican boxing world, where both Julio Cesar Chavez and his sons have maintained an important media presence throughout the years.
Arrest Omar Chávez, son of Julio César Chávez: The accusation against him

According to the information released by the authorities, Omar Chávez faces accusations related to alleged acts of domestic violence and injuries. The complaint was allegedly filed by a woman with whom he had a sentimental relationship, who accused him of alleged physical aggressions.
The investigations led to the issuance of an arrest warrant, which was executed this week by state agents. It was reported that the sportsman had previously been summoned by the judicial authorities to appear before a judge, but allegedly did not attend the corresponding summons, a situation that would have contributed to his arrest.
So far, no further details have been made public about the facts reported or about the evidence that is part of the investigation file.
Following his arrest, Omar Chávez was taken to the Aguaruto Penitentiary Center, located in Culiacán, where he remained while the initial hearing was held to determine his legal status.
The arrest attracted the attention of national media and boxing fans, due to the fact that he is a well known figure within the Mexican sports scene. Throughout his professional career, Chávez has disputed multiple fights and has built a trajectory that, although constantly compared to that of his father, has allowed him to consolidate his own name within the national boxing world.
However, on this occasion the media spotlight was focused on the judicial process he is facing and not on his sporting activity.
Judge sentences him to trial

During the hearing held on Thursday, May 21, the judge in charge of the case ordered the boxer to stand trial for the crimes with which he is charged. This resolution means that there are sufficient elements to continue the judicial investigation against him and that the legal proceeding will continue.
However, the athlete’s defense requested an alternative measure contemplated by law: the conditional suspension of the proceedings. This legal figure allows a person bound to trial to continue facing the case outside prison, as long as he/she complies with a series of conditions imposed by the judicial authority.
As a result of this determination, Omar Chávez recovered his freedom and will be able to follow the legal process without remaining incarcerated, although he must comply with the measures established by the judge in order to keep such benefit.
The conditional suspension does not imply the definitive closure of the case or an absolution of responsibilities. On the contrary, the judicial process remains in force and the fulfillment of the conditions set will be fundamental to define the boxer’s legal future.
While the investigations continue, the case continues to generate public attention due to the profile of the accused and the relevance of the Chávez family within Mexican sports. For now, the judicial authorities will continue with the follow-up of the file to determine the corresponding resolutions as the legal proceeding progresses.
