KPop phenomenon ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ cemented its global stardom on Thursday by receiving two Oscar nominations, for best animated feature and best original song, a historic recognition of K-pop’s influence on the world’s cinematic narrative.
The Netflix film will compete for the animation award against titles such as ‘Arco’, ‘Elio’, ‘Little Amélie or the Character of Rain’ and ‘Zootopia 2’.
And his song ‘Golden’, the hit song of the fictional band from the film HUNTR/X, will compete for the statuette for best original song alongside ‘Dear Me’ from ‘Diane Warren’, ‘I lied you’ from ‘Sinners’, ‘Sweet dreams of joy’ from Viva Verdi, and ‘Train Dreams’, which scored the film of the same title.

The film lands in the nominations of the most prestigious awards of the film industry with the momentum of having won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and Best Animated Film on January 11, a victory that set a historic precedent as the first production of this theme to win this award.
Since its premiere on June 20, the project directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans has not stopped achieving success on the platform, breaking records and consolidating k-pop as a global cultural phenomenon that goes far beyond music.
The song ‘Golden’ surpassed 100 million weekly plays worldwide for the first time, according to Billboard.

According to Agencia EFE, the main theme song, performed by the protagonists at the end of the film, also topped the Billboard Global 200 chart in the first week of August with 113.4 million plays, a 15 percent increase over the previous week and surpassing hits such as ‘Ordinary’ by Alex Warren and ‘Jump’ by South Korean K-pop band BLACKPINK.
