Karol G will receive the Award for Excellence as an International Artist at the American Music Awards (AMA) and will perform during the gala of these awards to be presented on May 25 in Las Vegas (NV, USA), as announced Wednesday by the producers of the event.
In a press release, quoted by Billboard magazine, the event’s producers stated that Karol G “has redefined” what it means to be a global artist.
“Through his authenticity, groundbreaking achievements and powerful connection with fans around the world, he has helped take Latin music to unprecedented heights,” the message adds.
In 2009, Whitney Houston was the most recent artist to be named by Excellence as an International Artist, according to the publication.
The Colombian singer joins a select list of previous honorees that also includes Aerosmith, Bee Gees, Beyoncé, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson and Rod Stewart.
Karol G, who in April made history by becoming the first Latina artist to headline the Coachella Festival, is in one of her best moments.
Earlier this month, the Medellin-born singer expanded her ‘Traveling the World Tropitour’ tour from 39 to 63 stadium concerts, after successful ticket sales reached two million in just four days in Latin America, the United States, Canada and Europe.
The 2026 AMA ceremony will be held on May 25 at the MGM arena in Las Vegas, reported Agencia EFE.
