Paul George returns, Pistons and OKC respond and Brooklyn stumbles

Brooklyn extends its losing streak

Paul George scored 32 points and made nine three-pointers on Tuesday in the Philadelphia 76ers’ victory over the Milwaukee Bucks without Giannis Antetokounmpo, in an NBA game in which the Detroit Pistons and the Oklahoma City Thunder both won to confirm their respective leads in the East and West.

In addition, Spanish coach Jordi Fernández’s Brooklyn Nets crashed 106-102 in their visit to the Phoenix Suns, without Devin Booker, after suffering a 10-2 final score. Mark Williams led the Suns with 27 points and 13-of-16 shooting from the field, supported by 26 points from Dillon Brooks. The Nets suffered their eleventh loss in the last twelve games, despite 36 points from Michael Porter Jr.

In Philadelphia, Paul George signed the best performance of his season, shooting 11 of 21 from the field and nine of 15 from the arc for 32 points.

Joel Embiid contributed 29 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the win.

Tyrese Maxey contributed 22 points and nine assists for the Sixers, who put Monday’s 130-93 humiliation at Charlotte behind them.

The Milwaukee Bucks played without Greece’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, out four to six weeks due to injury and uncertain about his future.

The NBA transfer window will close on February 5 and several franchises, including the Golden State Warriors, are among the possible destinations for the two-time MVP.

Myles Turner was the Bucks’ leading scorer with 31 points.

Knicks, 3 wins in a row

The Knicks sealed their third straight win with a 103-87 victory at Madison Square Garden against the Sacramento Kings led by 28 points from Jalen Brunson.

The Knicks were tied at 72 entering the fourth period.

But they managed a 31-15 win that gave them a valuable victory to keep the pressure on the Boston Celtics for second place in the NBA East.

Brunson starred in the Knicks’ big fourth period with 11 of his 28 points.

Dominican Karl Anthony Towns contributed a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Mikal Bridges scored 18 points.

The New Yorkers have a 28-18 record to Boston’s 29-17.

The Eastern Conference is led by the Detroit Pistons (34-11), who defeated the Nuggets 109-107 in Denver with 22 points and 11 assists from Cade Cunningham and 22 points from Tobias Harris.

The Nuggets are third in the West (31-16), despite being without Serbian Nikola Jokic due to a knee problem.

Jamal Murray was the leading scorer for the 2023 NBA champions with 24 points.

OKC relaunches

Shai Gilgeous Alexander scored 29 points to lead the OKC Thunder to a 104-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans as the defending NBA champions reenergized after two consecutive losses.

The Thunder entered the matchup with the Pelicans having lost three of their previous five games.

But they did not fail at the Paycom Center to reinforce their lead in the West (38-10), ahead of the San Antonio Spurs (31-15).

Gilgeous Alexander starred with 29 points, six rebounds and four assists despite an uncharacteristic eight-of-24 shooting from the field.

Without Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein, Chet Holmgren shined with 20 points, fourteen rebounds and five blocks for OKC.
