British singer Bonnie Tyler (1951) remains “seriously ill but stable,” her team said Tuesday in a statement, which indicated that her family is “very disappointed” by the “numerous sensationalist and false rumors circulating” about her health.

“As of this morning, Bonnie remains seriously ill, although stable, admitted to a hospital in Faro; however, her doctors remain confident that she will make a full recovery,” said the statement posted on the singer’s website.

Tyler, 74, was admitted last week to a hospital in southern Portugal days after undergoing intestinal surgery. After the news broke, the local press reported that she was in an induced coma.

In recent days other information had also circulated, such as that she had suffered a cardiac arrest, in which a “friend” of the artist was quoted.

In response, his team made it clear that they are the official source.

“When there is more news on Bonnie’s condition, we will issue another statement, but we ask the media to stop speculating or publishing wild rumors, which only serve to upset her family, friends and many fans, and we again request privacy and decency at this difficult time,” the statement concludes.

Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, rose to fame in the late 1970s with songs like ‘It’s a Heartache’, but achieved international stardom in the 1980s with the iconic ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ (1983), reported Agencia EFE.
