The illusion of seeing singer-songwriter Gustavo Cerati (1959-2014) in a live performance, along with bassist Zeta Bosio and drummer Charly Alberti, can be fulfilled thanks to ‘Echoes’, the new show of Soda Stereo, which will have its first date on April 14 in Mexico City and will feature a digital avatar of the Argentine.

“What will surprise Soda Stereo fans the most is that they will get to see Gustavo’s physical presence on stage,” said Nicolás Bernaudo, who, in addition to having collaborated with Cerati for 14 years, is one of the leaders in the design of audiovisual experiences in Argentina.

This reunion with the band, which marked the history of rock in Spanish in the 1980s, coincides with a trend in the entertainment industry to appeal to nostalgia, a mechanism that “is working” to connect with the “most emotional fibers of the public,” Bernaudo told EFE.

He also explained that reliving experiences that marked one generation can awaken new emotions in the next, as happened in the tour’s debut last March at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires.

“The father went with his son, who never saw them (Soda Stereo), but listened to them all his life at home, and both were moved in a different way. That is what we are liking and what is happening worldwide: the emotion and the comebacks”, he emphasized.

Bernaudo said that the set-up at the Palacio de los Deportes in the Mexican capital will consist of the installation of 800 synchronized LED lights in three giant structures, as well as the use of multiple screens and “holographic tulles”.

These elements, he said, will contribute to create a luminous atmosphere capable of awakening the illusion that the emblematic vocalist is on stage, performing rock anthems such as ‘De música ligera’.

He also explained that, in order to design Cerati’s digital avatar and capture his legacy, they relied “firstly, on his entire history” and, subsequently, on “the last version of Gustavo”, since, he said, “he was very changeable”.

The artist’s last stage was “splendid” and of an “outstanding” creative level, said Bernaudo, who accompanied his solo facet in ‘Fuerza Natural’ (2009), the album that gave rise to the tour with which he would close his career before suffering a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), which left him in a coma for four years and finally caused his death in 2014.

The ‘Echoes’ tour was carefully thought out by Alberti, Bosio and even Cerati’s children, Benito and Lisa, so it will cover Soda Stereo’s classics, some of them included in ‘Me Verás Volver’ (2007).

“We had a relationship with the family from the very first moment. They provided comments and contributed at all times to the creation of the show,” concluded Bernaudo.

After its debut in Argentina, Soda Stereo lands in Mexico with a total of seven presentations in April: the first in Mexico City (14, 15 and 16), to continue at the Telmex Auditorium in Guadalajara (18 and 19) and conclude at the Banamex Auditorium in Monterrey on 21 and 22.

The tour will have dates in different countries in 2026, although Mexico is an important destination for the group, reported Agencia EFE, since 22% of its global audience is located in the North American country.
