The end of desire?

Jimena, Arely y Karina desmenuzan el fenómeno del celibato en la era digital

Is sex an “endangered species” among the younger generation? What is the difference between choosing not to have sex and simply not finding the time?

In the most recent episode of “¿Y Tú Qué Onnda?”, a production of Nueva Network and QuéOnnda, renowned communicators Jimena Aguilar, Arely Inzunza and Karina Zambrano put on the table a topic that makes many uncomfortable but is a growing reality: celibacy and the crisis of intimacy in the modern world.

Celibacy vs. Abstinence: Not the same thing, although they are similar

With their characteristic sharpness, the hosts began the debate by clarifying concepts.

While abstinence is usually a temporary pause (such as waiting for marriage or a medical recommendation), celibacy is a lifestyle choice, often linked to a spiritual process or deep self-knowledge.

“Celibacy is a conscious decision to abstain, it can be temporary or long term, but it has to do with a deep issue of ideologies,” explained Karina Zambrano, who along with her colleagues analyzed how figures of the stature of Lenny Kravitz have made this practice their life standard, moving away from the media noise of the “crazy life” to seek a different connection.

From Lenny Kravitz to “Digital Dopamine”.

The panel, comprised of three women with strong backgrounds in the media, brought unique perspectives:

Jimena Aguilar, with her direct and analytical style, questioned whether celibacy in Hollywood stars is a spiritual evolution or simply the result of having “done everything and undone everything”, citing cases such as Charlie Sheen or Valentino Lanús.

Arely Inzunza, an expert in connecting with the most sensitive fibers of the audience, put her finger on the pulse when talking about the energy merger.

“When you have sex, there is a cellular fusion; something of that person stays in you,” he noted, suggesting that celibacy today is also a form of spiritual “cleansing.”

Karina Zambrano provided a dose of biological reality, discussing the myths of ejaculation and pelvic floor health, questioning what happens to the body when the “machinery” stops by choice.

Why do young people prefer a video game?

One of the most revealing points of the episode was the analysis of “digital distraction”.

The drivers discussed how social networking and infinite scrolling generate the same dopamine levels as a sexual encounter.

“In the 70s and 80s, sex was the big chemical high available. Today, young people find that ecstasy in a video game or at a concert,” they reflected, citing surveys where new generations prioritize digital experiences over physical intimacy.

The episode is now available on QuéOnnda TV’s YouTube channel, where you can also listen to other titles promoted by QuéOnnda and Nueva Network, such as Los Jefes Deportes.
