A worker of a company in charge of setting up the stage for the mega-concert that Shakira will offer on Saturday at Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, died this Sunday in a work accident, official sources informed.
The victim, a 28-year-old security technician, died from the impact of “a stage assembly structure that collapsed,” Rio’s Military Police said in a statement.
According to the testimony of other employees cited by the Fire Department, the young man “suffered crushed lower extremities in a lifting system.”
When the rescue teams arrived, the victim had already been removed from the accident site by his colleagues. She received first aid on the spot and was quickly taken to a hospital, but she did not resist her injuries and died.

The Rio Civil Police has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The Bonustrack company, organizer of the show, regretted what happened in a statement and lent “all its support, welcome and solidarity to the company responsible (for the deceased worker), his team and the victim’s family”.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s most touristic city, is already preparing for the arrival of the Colombian singer, one of the top representatives of Latin music.
The stage has been set up for a few days in the middle of Copacabana beach, where the Mayor’s Office expects around two million people to gather next Saturday.
The mega-concert, which will be free of charge, will repeat the model of the shows offered by Lady Gaga and Madonna in 2025 and 2024, respectively, which were attended by more than 1.5 million people, according to local authorities, reported Agencia EFE.
