Lady Gaga has it clear: in order to be reborn, you have to die first. The “Mother Monster” has stunned the world by announcing the definitive closure of her most introspective stage with the release of ‘MAYHEM: Requiem’. This concert documentary, presented for Apple Music Live, is not a simple recording of a tour; it is a “desecrated opera” which simulates a descent into hell to give rest to her seventh studio album.
The premise of this era was “dance or die”, and after making us dance all over the world, Lady Gaga has chosen the second option to stage MAYHEM’s unprecedented artistic funeral.
A “high priestess” in an upside-down world

Shot in the mystical atmosphere of the Wiltern Hall in Los Angeles, the special shows Gaga wrapped in rigorous mourning, hiding her face under a veil before a backdrop of shattered columns.
The aesthetics, reminiscent of Stranger Things’ Upside Down, serve as a framework for a rite where the artist strips off her frenetic choreography to transform herself into a high priestess.
Unlike their massive shows, this staging is static and solemn.
Here, the dynamism is provided by the play of lights and an instrumentation that breaks with everything we knew about the singer.
DNA of industrial metal and night electronics

The sound of ‘MAYHEM: Requiem’ draws from unexpected sources: industrial metal influences and experimental rhythms reminiscent of Daft Punk.
Accompanied only by five musicians, synthesizers and a church organ, Gaga covered acclaimed songs such as ‘Disease’ and ‘Abracadabra’, turning the space into a temple of introspection and pain.
The climax of the rite comes when Mourning transforms into a futuristic metal helmet, fusing his hit ‘Die With a Smile’ with a dark electronica sound that marks the transition to his next creative horizon.
“Rest in peace”: The end of an internecine war

With this project, Gaga seems to put to rest the personal battles and “intrusive thoughts” that brought this era to life.
At the end of the show, he disappeared into the shadows with a strong message: “Rest in peace”.
It is the closing of a cycle where the star survived its own disorder to be able to navigate towards a new stage.
What about you Onnda, are you ready to see the darkest and most experimental Gaga at this musical funeral?
