The MTV VMAs will pay tribute to the late singer Ozzy Osbourne during their gala this Sunday, with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry -members of the band Aerosmith-, YUNGBLUD and Nuno Bettencourt performing some of the musician’s most iconic songs.

According to a statement, the artists will give voice on stage at the VMAs to a medley of the most iconic songs of Osbourne, who died last July of a heart attack at the age of 76.

The organization of the event, to be held this Sunday at the UBS Arena in New York, remembers the Briton as “a global rock icon, multi-platinum singer-songwriter and pop culture phenomenon” who managed to sell more than 120 million albums worldwide.

During his long career in the music industry, Osbourne won five Grammy Awards and was twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the first time as part of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 2006 and the second time as a solo artist in 2024.

“Ozzy has left an indelible mark on music history, with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Birmingham Walk of Stars, among numerous other accolades,” the statement stressed.

He also notes that his relationship with the MTV network has “transcended decades,” as Osbourne participated in shows such as ‘Headbanger’s Ball’ and ‘Battle for Ozzfest’ and in 2014 was awarded the Global Icon Award at the MTV EMAs.

Of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, the organization recalls that they were part of the “incomparable” rock band Aerosmith, which managed to sell more than 150 million albums, while YUNGBLUD is described as “one of the most influential voices in the music scene, fusing rock and punk”.

Nuno Bettencourt is the guitarist, singer-songwriter and main producer of the Grammy-nominated rock band Extreme, reported Agencia EFE.
