On an intense night at the Universitario Stadium, Tigres and Toluca drew 1-1 in the first leg of the semifinals of the Clausura 2025 Liga MX Tournament. The result leaves the tie completely open for the second leg, to be played at the Nemesio Diez Stadium, where the first finalist of the tournament will be defined.
First half with emotions and goals
The university team struck first.
In the 20th minute, Ozziel Herrera broke down the left flank and sent a precise low cross into the box.
Nico Ibáñez, with great instinct, anticipated the defense and scored a first-time shot, beating goalkeeper Luis García and unleashing the celebration at the “Volcán”.
Tigres kept the pressure on Toluca.
Shortly thereafter, Fernando Gorriarán came close to extending the lead after a team move, but the Toluqueño defense deflected his shot in time.
Toluca reacted after half an hour.
Alexis Vega’s shot from outside the area rattled the crossbar, and minutes later he again challenged goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán, who prevented the equalizer with a masterful save.
However, before the break, Paulinho equalized for the Red Devils with a precise header from Marcel Ruiz’s cross from the right.
With the score at 1-1, Tigres and Toluca went to halftime.
More prominence for goalkeepers
The second half maintained the intensity, but the goalkeepers were the protagonists.
Nahuel Guzmán, as in previous phases, saved Tigres on multiple occasions, thwarting attempts by Toluca’s Vega and Ruiz.
García also responded when Ibáñez looked for his second goal.
Despite the offensive attempts, the scoreboard did not move and the tie leaves everything to be decided in the second leg.

The second leg between Tigres and Toluca will be played on Sunday, May 19 at Nemesio Diez Stadium, home of the Diablos.
The winner of this series will face the winner of the match between América and Cruz Azul in the final of the Clausura 2025.
