In order to analyze this phenomenon, the hosts invited Master of Science Monica Gil, one of the most qualified child and adolescent psychologists of 2026.
With specialties in neuroeducation and systemic training in Spain, Gil explained that nowadays pre-adolescence begins as early as 8 or 9 years old, due to factors such as diet and the premature use of hormone-saturated cosmetics.
“Add to this the fact that the mother is going through perimenopause, and you have a perfect storm of behavioral changes, hot flashes and emotional instability on both sides,” the expert said.
Survival tools: The 10-second technique
During the talk, Karina and the drivers shared personal anecdotes about maternal guilt and the difficulty of letting go of control. Mónica Gil recommended three fundamental pillars to maintain peace:
The 10-second technique: When faced with an explosion from a child, the mother should consciously inhale and exhale before responding. “If he is fire and you come in with gasoline, everything is going to explode,” Gil warned.
Radical communication: It is vital to tell the husband and children: “I am going through hormonal changes, if they see me irritable it is not personal”.
Apologize: Normalize that we are human and that an “I’m sorry, I was wrong” can heal the bond with a teenager who feels misunderstood.
Healing the teenager you were
One of the most profound moments of the episode was when Jimena Aguilar reminded us that our children’s adolescence is a mirror of our own wounds.
Systemic therapy suggests that this chaos is the ideal opportunity to reconcile with our own history and let go of the pressure to be the “perfect mother”.
“It’s a duel for both of us,” Jimena concluded.
“They stop being children and we stop being who we were. It’s a stage that forces us to grow up.
This episode of Y Tú Qué Onnda? not only informs, but validates the feelings of thousands of women who today feel exhausted.
The episode is now available on all audio platforms, such as Apple Podcast and Spotify, where you can also listen to other titles promoted by QuéOnnda and Nueva Network, such as El Diva Show.
