The veteran series “Grey’s Anatomy” (“Grey’s Anatomy”) paid tribute in its last episode aired last night to one of its stars, actor Eric Dane, who passed away at the age of 53 on February 19 as a result of ALS.
In this episode of the series aired in the U.S. by ABC, tribute was paid to him and his character, Dr. Mark Sloan, in a video of his best moments in the series that closed the show.
The 65-second montage was based on Tommee Profitt & Fleuries’ version of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,” a song that became iconic after it was used in the series’ second season finale when one of its main characters dies.
Since then, different versions of “Chasing Cars” have been used in the series, always to highlight an emotional event, according to Variety magazine.
Eric Dane’s legacy on Grey’s Anatomy

Dane joined the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” in the second season, playing a plastic surgeon and womanizer.
Mark, nicknamed McSteamy, was best friends with Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), whose affair with Addison (Kate Walsh), Derek’s wife, had broken up the marriage.
Mark Sloan became a popular character in the series, and Dane became a regularly appearing actor in the third season.
His character died during the eighth season, after several doctors at the hospital were involved in a plane crash, although Dane appeared a few more times sporadically in the series.
Dane was diagnosed with ALS in 2025 and, despite his terminal illness, he played an ALS patient in “Brilliant Minds” and finished filming the third season of “Euphoria”, where he played Cal Jacobs, which will premiere on HBO on April 12, reported Agencia EFE.
