Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, stars of the critically acclaimed ‘Hamnet’ (2025), will work together again in ‘Hold On To Your Angels,’ written and directed by Oscar nominee Benh Zeitlin.
The film is set in southern Louisiana and follows an outlaw, played by Mescal, “doomed to hell, and a fierce shepherdess of lost souls (played by Buckley) who fall catastrophically in love as the decadent swamp paradise they inhabit drags them into the abyss,” reads the film’s synopsis quoted in the specialized media Deadline.
In a statement, the director described the project, which will begin shooting in February 2027, as “the most impossible story he has ever witnessed.”

The film will be presented to buyers at the Cannes market, where it is expected to be acquired by a studio.
At last year’s Oscars, Buckley won Best Actress for her performance as Agnes in Chloé Zhao’s ‘Hamnet’.
The film followed the love story between her and the young writer William Shakespeare, whom Mescal brought to life.
Mescal is currently working on the film saga about The Beatles, directed by Sam Mendes, in which he will play the legendary Paul McCartney, reported Agencia EFE.
