Netflix today released the last interview given by American actor Eric Dane, who died Thursday at age 53 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), in which he addresses his daughters, advises them and asks them to “appreciate the present.”
“The present is everything, appreciate the moment,” Dane, who rose to fame for his character Dr. Mark Sloan on the series‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ (‘Grey’s Anatomy’), tells the camera.
The interview is part of the Netflix documentary series ‘Famous Last Words’ that the artist, who also won public acclaim for the series ‘Euphoria’, agreed to film as it would only be aired after his death.
In that conversation, the platform reports on its X account, the actor spoke openly about his struggle with ALS, his issues with addiction and his marriage to Rebecca Gayheart, to whom he was married from 2004 to 2018 and with whom he had his two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
“By the time anyone sees this, I will no longer be here, and I can say that I have never fallen in love with another woman with the same intensity that I fell in love with Rebecca,” Dane assures.
The interview was recorded in November 2025 and shows the actor with mobility and speech difficulties.
The interpreter opens up to the camera and describes himself as “lonely, resilient, sensitive, empathetic and a good father,” and acknowledges that he was a happy man.
Eric Dane’s message to his daughters is devastating in interview

To his daughters he addresses the last words of the interview: “Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried, I stumbled sometimes but I tried. Overall we had a great time, didn’t we?”.
He advises them to live “now, right now.” “For years I have been lost in my head for long periods of time, wallowing in self-pity, shame and doubt. So you have to live in the now. The present is everything. Appreciate every moment.”
He also asks them to fall in love, “not necessarily with a person, although I recommend it. But fall in love with something. Find your passion, your joy. Find that thing that motivates you to get up every morning.”
And he explains that his love for his profession helped him overcome “the darkest days”: “I still want to get in front of a camera,” he acknowledged.
The last recommendation he makes to them is to choose “wisely” their friends, to whom he is as grateful as he is to his family.
“Each and every one of them has stepped up. I can’t do the things I used to do anymore. I can’t drive, go to the gym, have a coffee, hang out. But I’ve learned to accept alternatives,” he confessed.
“This disease is slowly ravaging my body, but it will never take away my spirit,” he explained of ALS, which he has been battling for a year since he was diagnosed.
“Billie and Georgia, they are my heart. They are my everything. Good night. I love them. Those are my last words,” Dane ended the interview, reported Agencia EFE.
