Former Secretary of State and former first lady of the United States Hillary Clinton denied Thursday before a congressional committee that she had ever met sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in person or had any knowledge of the crimes he committed.

Clinton, who is appearing behind closed doors from New York before the House Oversight Committee, posted on social media the opening statement she made during questioning.

The wife of former President Bill Clinton, who is scheduled to testify Friday, accused the Republican-controlled committee of subpoenaing her to “distract attention.”

In addition to “covering up” the activities of the president, Donald Trump, who had a relationship with Epstein.

“I don’t recall ever meeting Mr. (Jeffrey) Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island, his homes or his offices. I have nothing to add,” Hillary Clinton declared.

The former secretary of state stressed that she “had no idea about the criminal activities” of the financial tycoon, who died in prison in 2019:

“Like any decent person, I was horrified when I learned of his crimes.”

Hillary Clinton called the Jeffrery Epstein case “a tragedy” and “a scandal” that deserves “a thorough investigation.”

But he denounced the committee’s failure to summon those actually involved.

“Instead, you have asked me to testify, knowing that I have no knowledge that would be helpful to your investigation, in order to distract attention from President Trump’s activities and cover up for him despite the legitimate request for rebuttals,” he said.

The interrogation, which is being held behind closed doors in Chappaqua, New York, where the Clintons reside, takes place one day before the former president is also scheduled to appear at the same location.

Although the Clintons initially refused to testify before Congress, the threat of being held in contempt led the former presidential couple to agree to the appearance to explain their relationship with Epstein.

The Clintons have since asked that their testimony be made public because, they claim, they have nothing to hide.

Bill Clinton acknowledges taking several trips in the early 2000s on Epstein’s private plane for philanthropic reasons.

But he denies knowledge of the tycoon’s crimes.

For her part, Hillary Clinton claims that she never met Jeffrey Epstein.

But he admits to having met his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, sentenced to 20 years in prison, on several occasions at Clinton Foundation events.
